Abirami Senthil new PhD student

21/09/2022

We have a new PhD student at MoRe Research, Abirami Senthil. She will be connects to one of our research projects that deals with studying and developing wet-stable functionalized fibers from the organosolv process with the aim of replacing fossil-based materials in low-density materials, e.g. foams.

This project is conducted together with Luleå University of Technology with Ulrika Rova as supervisor from their side and Sara Wallstén from MoRe. The project is sponsored by BioInnovation and is part of the Kempe Framework Programme. Abirami will be at LTU for the first two years and at MoRe Research in Örnsköldsvik for the remaining two years.

The project is also part of a newly started business research school, Resurssmarta Processer. This is a venture financed by industry, academia and Vinnova with the aim of further developing today's processes in the forestry, chemical and textile industries through a better use of bio-based raw materials.

Hi Abirami! Tell us little bit more about yourself:

"Hi, My name is Abirami Senthil and I am coming from India. I have a background in Chemistry and Paper technology. I moved to France in 2020 where I did my master in biomaterial and biorefineries. Currently I’m pursuing doctoral studies to produce an industrially viable low density biobased material which can replace traditional plastic materials for packaging.

Coming to Sweden has been an adventure specially to work at MoRe Research and RISE. Their contribution and multidisciplinary approach to bioeconomy is truly inspiring. It has motivated me even more to continue my journey as a researcher. Being a part of academia at Luleå as well as the industry helps me focus me on a feasible approach to sustainability.

My hobbies include singing, cooking, and travelling. Besides I’m already looking forward to chase Auroras and enjoy the snow!"
