New forest products and materials

The direction of the scientific activity is summarized within "New forest products and materials", with the core of developing new pulp and fiber qualities for new cellulose-based materials. The research will develop a basic understanding of the unit operations of the fiber line, wood chemical processes and understanding of the relationship between the process and the structures and properties of new materials. It is a long-term investment for competence building with the aim of supporting other mission-based activities in MoRe and RISE as well as supporting the forest industry companies with competence and R&D.

The balance between materials research and research in the field of pulp technology is well balanced within the sub-projects that initially build the program. Two of the sub-projects focus on research within fiber line operations (chipping, impregnation, delignification, fractionation), two sub-projects focus on material development and one sub-project lies in the borderland between these areas with a focus on fiber development for new composite materials. A further sub-project focuses on analysis and method development, an important basis for the entire research activity as well as the assignment part.
