Glue in cellulose industry

ASA, AKD, rosin, and starch are adhesives used as surface treatment chemicals in the paper and cardboard industry to enhance the surface properties of paper and cardboard. Here are some aspects of their usage and function in the papermaking process:

We can analyze adhesives of various types:

- ASA (Quantitatively)
- AKD (Semi-quantitatively)
- Rosin size (FTIR qualitatively only)
- Starch -
    - Analysis of the starch content in paper (this includes both starch from surface sizing and from the furnish (base paper))
    - If one wants to distinguish how much surface sizing starch is applied to a paper, it can be marked with lithium and then analyze the lithium content in a square decimeter of the paper.

We can determine which of the adhesives have been used in an unknown product.
