Tear resistans
ISO 1974 determination of tear strength according to Elmendorf's method, which is intended for paper but can also be used for board with lower strengths. It is not suitable for corrugated board and transverse direction with high fiber anisotropy.
Preparation: Before testing, sample handling takes place according to ISO 186 and conditioning according to ISO 187 and ISO 536 basis weight.
Measured quantity: Tear strength: The average force of sheets that are torn with an initial cut in millinewtons. Tear index is measured by dividing the tear strength by the basis weight
